Young Male Blackbird

Young Male Blackbird - The blackbird is the most common breeding bird in the painted forest. Plumage is completely black. Males in summer plumage have yellow beaks and yellow eye rings. In winter the beak is almost black. Females are dark brown with faint spots on the breast and have dark bills. Juveniles resemble females but are more reddish brown with brownish-yellow spots. It has a beautiful distinctive song. In this case the item is a young male blackbird, presumably in it's latter growth as a "teenager". Likes to sing from a high place, for example rooftops and treetops. Feeds on worms, insects, fallen fruit and berries. Most individuals are residents, but about a fifth, mainly females and juveniles, migrate south-west during winter.
