Mezcen of the Thorns: "When Mezcen was still a mortal shaman, they ventured on a soul-quest that led them deep into a desert. There, they found a thorny plant that their visions told them to eat - but when they attempted to dig it from the ground, the thorns badly hurt them. Thinking they grasped the lesson, they fell to their knees and pleaded with the spirit of the plant to offer Mezcen its aid willingly. Yet the thorns still hurt - perhaps the spirit was not willing, or perhaps it was simply deaf to their pleas. Perhaps there was no spirit in the first place."
