- 350,000 people visit Monument Valley annually. Do you recognize this view? Mile Marker 13 was made famous by Tom Hanks, when he suddenly finished his cross-country run as Forrest Gump. Monument Valley is much more than this location, but it's a location so stunningly beautiful and unique you can't help but stop to relish the experience. Snow resting at the base of these monuments adds a little extra to the magnificent structures and red clay. However, in the summer you can feel the brutal heat rising off the concrete, which creates a whole different experience. Every time I look at this picture it generates the urge to go on another road trip to regain that feeling of adventure, and to explore the area by foot even further.
