Unthinkable Adaptation

Vermin! Chakratch sweeps an arm between the DNA ravager and the saccharide butterfly, deflecting the greedy grip of the ravager just in time. He pants heavily. Close call. It leapt up when he was consumed in communication with the butterfly. A mature ravager learns to structure its body based on stolen biologies; if successful, this one would have copied the flight abilities of the butterfly. What horror would have ensued? A ravager transformed into an aerial creature, feasting on the foliage of the canopy until the trees curled into husks? Chakratch cannot imagine such a fate. Biology has become weaponized on Otris recently. The adaptive advantages of one creature may become those of another, and if left unchecked, lead to cascades of imbalanced power and unreliable relationships. Cut it off quickly: that is Chak’s job.
