The Quintresier would never imagine what they would learn today. They could not see a future where the Mythtuf succeeded, because it ran counter to their philosophy of health: the Mythtuf were a pathogen to be removed or adapted. Gywtug, even in her grandest hopes of the future, had to imagine the Quintresier into it. They were irreplaceable. So were the Mythtuf, but no one yet knew. And this was Gywtug’s advantage— Kanko would come out and greet the Quintresier. Yes, their meeting destroyed her lead. She was devastated, silently. The Mythtuf could have used many more sunups of Kanko in secrecy to prepare for the exchange era. But she could still manipulate the discovery. Gywtug felt the thump and twang of the ground as Bordrax approached. First, she had to be gracious. Here was her whole tribe at the border, waiting to receive old friends. She smiled.
