The Ghost Key


How could Gywtug ensure her Plan was known to allies and no one else? She had to invent a technology, a key that could not be stolen. But she could not design anything truly immutable… nothing at all. And then she realized— what was less at risk of theft than nothing? So that no one ever remembered a Plan Shard, yet could always access their own, one had to hold the absence of its key. Thus the Plan could be broken and scattered across the psychic space and concealed to all but the ghost keys. To pull this off, she made a key around which the lock was built, and activated the shard so it took its key and contents. What was left? A hole in the mind the shape of the key. Absence could not be copied, not even by her. But perhaps it could be filled with the story of another life.
